Keep Talking: Communication Habits for Getting Along All Marriage Long: A Workbook

My husband, J.R., and I have been happily married since 2004. We spent 10 of the first 14 months of our marriage apart due to J.R.’s Marine Corps training and a deployment to Iraq. We used this time to build strong communication and we have continually worked on it throughout our marriage. We teamed up with Kim Smith of Unbelievable Freedom to put together a marriage communication workbook.

This workbook is intended to be worked on together as a united couple with a goal of communicating better. We start out with the basics of clear verbal communication and then we move on to implementing actions that cultivate good communication habits. Lastly, we cover how communication can help your financial life and your sex life. These are important because most people cite problems in one of these two areas as the reason they get divorced. This will be a process of learning to verbalize your thoughts, feelings, fears, and insecurities without judgement, and to listen and receive those things from your spouse without being offended. It will be a painful process at times, but the improvement in your marriage will be worth it.
