Hi! My name is Kayla Cox, and I’m the owner of this site. “Six Miles to Supper” is my attempt to cleverly sum up how I lost 80 pounds in four words or less. For the bulk of my weight loss, I ate one meal a day (supper) and walked six miles a day (see full plan here). I had struggled with my weight from the time I was six until I turned 31. From childhood I was generally dieting, exercising, and taking diet pills in order to lose weight. At other times, I had no eating rules at all and was packing on the pounds.
On March 24, 2014, I had my I’ve had enough moment. I got tagged in some Facebook photos and didn’t recognize myself. I was determined to lose weight and keep it off for good. It took almost another year for me to work up the courage to get on the scale and face the number. It was 222. At 5’6″ that meant my BMI was 35.8 and I was obese. (Check your BMI here.) It took another year of spinning my wheels before I got any real traction on my weight loss journey.
Things finally changed for me in 2016 when I started practicing intermittent fasting consistently. I ate what I wanted. I had coffee with half and half in the fasting window. I took every Sunday off. I was generally imperfect in every way with my eating. And yet, I got down to my initial goal weight of 158 in November of that year. I maintained it with what felt little effort, and decided to share my story with others.
In 2017, I started this website and my Youtube channel in the hopes my videos might help others who struggled as I did. I wanted to lose a bit more weight, to get my BMI firmly in the “Normal” zone. I hit a low weight of 142, and decided that I was done losing weight. For me personally, there wasn’t much difference in how I felt at 158 vs 142. My maintenance goal since then has been to keep my weight in about a 10-pound range (ideally, the 140s). Although my 7-day average weight sometimes creeps up into the low 150s, it has stayed within the normal BMI range (< 154 lbs) since May 2018. (I am writing this on January 15, 2026.)
I’m a writer, a coder, an introvert, and a scanner (for what it means to be a scanner, see Barbara Sher’s wonderful book Refuse to Choose). I do not have social media accounts. To keep up with me as an author, check out my official website, kaylacox.net.
On a more personal note, I’ve been happily married since 2004 to my wonderful husband, J.R. We are a homeschooling family. One kiddo has flown the coop and started his own business, and the other two are teenagers. We went on a 2-year full-time RVing adventure across America from 2018-2020. We joined the Orthodox church in 2021.
We also have an Etsy shop.
